While flipping through the pages of People magazine I just could not help but gawk at the female celebritie’s engagement rings. Mary-Kate Olsen is wearing a Cartier bauble worth over $80,000! And Kim Kardashian…! Well, lets not even get started on that one! But I found myself wondering who has the most expensive engagement ring? Is someone wearing it now or was it on the finger of some famous actress from the 60’s. So I did a little searching and found the top 10 most expensive engagement rings in the world. Lets start the count down.
10. Duchess of Cambridge’s engagement ring – $509,000
Starting our countdown is none other than Kate Middleton, who is now wearing the famous Garrard 18 carat blue sapphire and diamond engagement ring. This stunning ring which was first presented by Prince Charles to Princess Diana in 1981, was then worth $47,500. Today, it is one of the most famous and priceless rings and is currently valued at over $509,000!

9. Anna Kournikova’s engagement ring – $2.5 million
This ring presented by Enrique Iglesias to Anna Kournikova is an Argyle pink pear shape diamond. It weighs 11 carats and has two trillion cut accent diamonds on either side. Even though the couple have been together since 2001, they do not appear to have any plans on getting married any time soon as Enrique has said that he doesn’t think tying the knot will bring the longtime couple any “closer together”. It’s understandable that the singer doesn’t want to officially tie the knot as the engagement ring is worth $2.5 million, we could only imagine how much that wedding would cost!

8. Catherine Zeta Jones’s engagement ring – $2.5 million
Looks like a tie between Anna Kournikova and Catherine Zeta Jones; both came in at $2.5 million. But we will give the #8 spot to this beautiful woman. Michael Douglas popped the question on New Years Eve in 1999 and Catherine, of course, said yes! The couple, despite their 25 years age difference (to the day, that’s right this couple were both born on the same day in September), they have stuck it together for over 15 years. The ring is a Fred Leighton vintage engagement ring with a marquise diamond in the centre that weighs 10 carats!

7. Jacqueline Onassis’s engagement ring – $2.6 million
Jackie O’s engagement ring was presented to her by her second husband Aristotle Onassis. The ring is a Lesotho III engagement ring with a 40.42 carat diamond! Surprisingly the ring valued at approximatley $2.6 million was only worn twice!

6. Melania Knauss’s engagement ring – $3 million
European model Melania Knauss has been seen on the covers of GQ Magazine, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Allure, Vanity Fair, Self, Glamour, Elle, Sports Illustrated, among others. She first met Donald Trump at a Fashion show in 1999. In April 2004, Donald popped the question with a $3 million Graff engagement ring with an incredible 15 carat emerald-cut diamond. On January 22, 2005 the couple said “I do” in front of about 500 wedding guests.

5. Jennifer Lopez’s engagement ring – $4 million
Jennifer Lopez was presented with a Neil Lane blue diamond ring by her now ex-husband Marc Anthony. The ring features an 8.5 carat diamond, that costs $4 million, making this ring one of the rarest and more precious pieces amongst Jennifer’s jewellery.

4. Grace Kelly’s engagement ring – $4.06 million
Coming in just ahead of Jennifer Lopez is Grace Kelly with her Cartier diamond engagement ring featuring am emerald-cut diamond that weighs 10.47 carats with two baguette diamonds on either side valued at approximately $4.06 million. The ring was presented by Prince Rainier III of Monaco. Grace Kelley put aside her acting career at the young age of 26. (By this time she had already appeared in New York theatrical productions, more than 40 episodes of live drama productions, became a movie star with her role in “Mogambo”, was nominated for a Golden Globe and Academy Award, which she won for her role in “The Country Girl”.) Grace had originally met the Prince on a photo shoot at the Palace of Monaco while attending the Cannes Film Festival in April 1955. The two continued correspondence for some time until the Prince went to America, met Grace’s family and three days later proposed. The wedding was set for April 19, 1956, but before the marriage could take place the family had to pay a $2 million dowry.

3. Paris Hilton’s engagement ring – $4.7 million
Paris Hilton was presented with a 24 carat emerald cut canary diamond ring with trillion cut diamonds on either side, by (at the time) fiancé Greek billionaire Paris Latsis. This ring cost nearly 4.7 million dollars! The couple were engaged for about half the year in 2005 but never made is down the aisle. It was reported Hilton, broke off the engagment saying that she thought she was too young and might be making a mistake… And he totally should have spent at least 5 million…

2. Beyonce’s engagement ring – $5 million
Beyonce’s, Lorraine Schwartz platinum engagement ring holds an octagon cut diamond that weighs 18 carats and is the most expensive engagement ring that has been presented at our modern time, which cost husband rapper Jay-Z a cool $5 million. The couple has been very private about their relationship and continue to be. No one knows how, or even if, Jay-Z formally proposed. Even the wedding was secret. But we did get a little snip it of what it might have looked like when Jay-Z and Beyonce attended the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala on May 5. Beyonce dropped her ring on the red carpet, and Jay-Z picked it up dropping down to one knee, staging a mock proposal.

1. Elizabeth Taylor’s engagement ring – $8.8 million
Topping our list is none other than the beautiful Elizabeth Taylor. Seriously-who else could it be?! This woman has an arsenal of truly fabulous gems most of which are from her hubby (at the time) Richard Burton. So, it is no surprise that he is the man who presented Elizabeth with the most expensive engagement ring in the whole world. Richard Burton acquired the ring in 1968 at auction for US $305,000 during the fourth year of their marriage. This spectacular ring holds a massive asscher cut Krupp diamond that weighs 33.19 carats! And is know as a “pure and transparent diamond” which leads us to believe it most likely an internally flawless to flawless diamond and colourless. The ring was sold at auction by Christie’s in December 2011 to an Asian collector for 8.8 million. The diamond is now known as the “Elizabeth Taylor Diamond”.
