The 2015 wedding season is upon us. Every year “what’s popular” in the wedding and jewellery business changes; last year it was soft pastels and metallic’s making headway along with the ever so desired halo engagement ring. This year we are making a few changes.
The big theme of the year is “ranch” inspired. It’s time to get out the leather saddle and bourbon and hold onto your cowboy hat because this party is about to get wild! To help you get the Wild West vibe for your big day, try and book a venue with a rustic ranch feel. It will help set the scene with details like antler motifs, distressed lounges with cowhide rugs and wildflower bouquets. Get your guests sipping on specialty craft beers or serve up some old fashioneds as a featured drink. As for the bride, groom and bridal party, the attire can also echo the Wild West look, with a long –sleeve dress, subtle lace embellishments and a delicate illusion neckline. Finish your look off with a nice pair of leather cowboy boots that will keep you moving all night long. For your bridesmaids, go with darker coloured dresses like red, or blue, paired with cowboy boots and a selection of wild flowers from your local farmers market. The boys can go fairly simple with this ranch styled wedding, getting rid of those jackets and vests all together and get your men in black or grey dress pants and shirts with a plaid tie and suspenders to help keep it in tune with the Wild West feel.

As for jewellery for your wild party, gold and pastel coloured stones are set to be popular for this 2015 wedding season and will go perfectly with that ranch style feel. Gold accessories are perfect to pair with a nude or champagne coloured wedding dress. Mixing metals is also a great look. If your engagement ring is in white gold, maybe your wedding band could be a slim yellow gold diamond band. Not only does it look fantastic, but it will help keep with the theme of your day. For the groom and his groomsmen, take a look at the modern styling of stainless steel and leather bracelets in the men’s jewellery line of Alor.

The second most popular wedding theme we are seeing this year is the laid-back and casual Bohemian style. Think Coachella or Woodstock for inspiration and bring out your inner hippie! Envision backyard or open-field setting or imagine being married in a lavender field! Complete the look with tepees for cocktail hour and picnic-style dining. Keep your colours bright and festive, but still earthy. Try bright yellow and teal, paired with terra-cotta. For the bride maybe try an airy loose style wedding dress. As for your bridesmaids, go with intentional mismatched dresses. This will keep with the effortless and easy boho style.

As for the jewellery, Bohemian inspired looks are the most prominent among top bridal designers for 2015. Romantic and feminine; with pieces showcasing materials like, organza, ribbon, chiffon, lace and silk flowers are on the rise. Choose from beautifully made headpieces with a matching organza tie bracelet, fabric and crystal earrings and beautiful pearl and crystal necklaces.

For an engagement ring that feels unique yet still elegant, brides don’t need to deviate far from the classic solitaire or trinity. Delicate design details such as braiding across the band or surprise diamonds or gemstones set into the rings side profile or head, bring innovative features to an otherwise timeless style. The halo engagement ring continues to be popular. Bring that stunning sparkle in a way that feels more unique and sophisticated with pave and micropave settings popularized by the halo style added into simpler settings. Rings such as a double pave band with a split shank, parting on the finger at it comes to meet the center diamond demonstrate this popular look.

If none of these design styles are quite your speed, maybe bringing it back, “way back” to something a little more vintage. That 1920’s inspired look of Downton Abbey and the Great Gatsby is a fashionable trend for this year brides-to-be. Think crystal chandeliers, tall floral centre pieces with draping fauna and stylish curtains behind your head table. During cocktail hour serve up some favourite prohibition inspired cocktails like, “French 75”, “Southside”, “Sidecar”, or a “Tuxedo #2”. Forehead bands, posh adornments and feather motifs in many designs are becoming increasingly popular for the bride. Jewellery inspired by this era feature baguette crystals and diamonds, geometric shapes, long pendants and opera style necklaces, such as opera length pearls. This look is all about luxury details and lots of style!

Give your look the vintage feel with pearls. Starting at $200
Perhaps the 1920’s is a little to far back, but you would still like a vintage feel to your day. Think old 1950’s Hollywood glamour! Inspired by movie starlets with prom-style wedding gowns and lots of lace. Roll out that red carpet at your reception and make your guests feel like their walking into a major movie premier! You can still add many of the same elements of the 1920’s styling’s to your décor. Instead of flowers in the tall center pieces, try bright white feathers to add to that Hollywood glam. As for the venue, if your guest list isn’t too big try the “Lindon House”downtown Kelowna to help achieve that vintage feel. Jewellery to compliment this look needs to give off the feel of elegance. Beaded accessories are set to be popular in 2015 as well as beaded combs, sashes and necklaces. Freshwater and saltwater pearls are also the focal point for this vintage-inspired style. For decades brides have chosen to wear pearl jewellery on their wedding day. Modern cuffs, statement chandelier earrings and beautiful cocktail rings, add to that vintage wedding day style.

To keep in tune with the vintage feel of your special day, vintage cut diamonds are becoming more and more popular in this years engagement rings. Cushion cut diamonds have steadily taken over the more modern princess-cut shape in sales. Other fancy shapes such as oval, emerald and marquise cuts, offer elongated shapes that flatter the finger and suit a variety of ring settings. If you tend to prefer the sparkle of the round brilliant but wish it could be more on the square or cushion side, have no fear! Forevermark diamonds, sold exclusively at European Goldsmith offer two very unique cuts that are brilliant. The ideal cushion cut and the ideal square. Both diamonds offer that vintage feel in the way the diamond is shaped. Most importantly, the same brilliance and sparkle that a round diamond has due to the way the diamond is cut and polished. These diamonds are truly something rare, unique and responsibly sourced. Take that beautiful ideal cut cushion or square Forevermark diamond and set it into the popular, yet totally vintage warm rose gold! Rose gold engagement rings contrast spectacularly with a brilliant centre diamond. If you still prefer the white gold look, maybe try adding a thin rose gold and diamond wedding band to compliment your engagement ring instead.
